Younger years
Born in 1959 in Luxembourg, I started my theoretical music
education and first practice at the local music school and harmony.
An unexpected curiosity and pleasure to learn numerous instruments
quickly developed my enthusiasm to reserve music a special
place in my mind and life. Over the years
I accomplished piano and keyboard courses, followed by
intense years in the domain of percussion and various stringed
instruments. In connection with the passion for travel and
discovery, the interest laid on instruments from foreign
cultures. (Djembe, Amadinda, N’Goni, Tabla, Ghatan, Kora,…)
Even when my curiosity in technology, functionality, and artisanship
have guided my scholarship and determined my professional
career (civil engineer) this considered never an obstacle.
My passion for all kind of materials, the fact to produce “sound”
from a wide variety of resources was not a contradiction to my everyday
professional life, but rather a challenge. It established little by
little my aspiration and aptitude to produce instruments on my own.
In 2018, at the end of my professional activity, the gained time
offered new opportunities to dedicate my everyday life on many
facets of music, solo or in collectively. This allowed me to develop
my own skills and participate on various courses (ex: intensive
Batá course @Conservatoire de Luxembourg).
Since then, my days have been filled with concerts,
accompaniment of dance, yoga or art exhibitions, with a current
attention on social music projects (Concerts for Fondation EME;
long-term projects as Music@Parkisonlux; diverse projects
promoting integration and social inclusion) and since 2020
individual teaching.
These years…
The multiplicity of instruments and social interacting with
persons of all generations, most diverse cultures, abilities
and disabilities, led and inspired me to focus on an
astonishing and extraordinary instrument: The HANDPAN
My enthusiasm to teach this skill is sharing the knowledge and
experience that this instrument is suitable to replace words
by sounds and converse stress to sensuality, spirit and fun.
Perfect for beginners, there are no wrong notes ;-)
Be curious and try it…
